I had a conversation at work today that blew my mind. I was talking to a family member of a patient, and she recounted a- the medical error- medical error that now defined this patient's life. She was giving me comfort, as I hadn't been able to start an IV on this young man, and she said this: " When the doctor called me, and told me what had happened, and I ran back to the hospital, well I saw that nurse who made the mistake, I saw her and I saw her tears, and I knew that this was all in G-d's hands. I went to her, and hugged her, and said I would pray for her. ANyone can make a mistake. Anyone. We just do the best we can."
I was touched beyond belief. I have chills thinking of it. I don't know if I could have shown the love and forgivness she had shown, but I hope I could have.

Wow. And her loving kindness just rippled forth to an unknowable number of people she will never meet, and who knows how many from that. Thank you and thank you to her from me over here, if you get a chance to tell her I said that.
Yes, we all try to do our best. And the lady knew that.
Oh my. What an experience. That's some bar to live up to.
